One of the men convicted of killing an asylum seeker on Papua New Guinea’s Manus Island three years ago has escaped from prison for a second time. The Manus Island police commander, David Yapu, confirmed that Joshua Kaluvia escaped from the island’s prison on Saturday.
He says a manhunt is underway.
Kaluvia, who was employed at the Australia-run detention centre, was one of two men sentenced last April for beating Reza Barati to death at the centre in February 2014.
Kaluvia escaped from the same prison in April 2016 and evaded recapture for more than two weeks.
