“Rallies will be held across the country on Friday to demand the release of a Sri Lankan mother and her three children, along with the other 55 ASIO-rejected refugees being detained in Australian detention centres…  Tamil Refugee Council spokesman, Trevor Grant, said Ranjini was suffering psychological wounds as she attempted to cope with a baby born in detention as well as two increasingly disturbed sons…  As reported by Fairfax Media, her oldest son, now 9, has begun self-harming by plunging sticks into his ears, potentially causing irreparable damage to his hearing, which psychologists claim is a direct result of his incarceration…

The candle-light vigils will be held in Melbourne’s CBD, Dandenong, Brunswick and Footscray and in Sydney’s CBD and outside Villawood detention centre, where Ranjini and her children are being incarcerated.

Simultaneous rallies will also be held in Perth, Adelaide, Darwin, Newcastle, Brisbane, Cairns, Geelong, Ballarat, and Wonthaggi to persuade Immigration Minister Brendan O’Connor to use his power to release the refugees into the community…
