Yesterday (21/11/12) another asylum seeker attempted suicide, but thankfully survived:
“One of the asylum seeker attempted suicide in Nauru after hearing the news that the asylum seekers who arrive after 13th August who are inside Australian detention centres will be processed and released soon and will be given bridging visas. He hanged himself inside his tent with a bed sheet”.

With yesterday’s rain the tents were also leaking. The telephone room, kitchen and internet rooms were also full of water.
“The whole detention centre is giving the example of a pool”.

Amnesty International also carried out an inspection of the centre, and the asylum seekers wish to communicate this message:
“We humbly ask Amnesty International that with cooperation with the Human Rights Council apply necessary pressure to the Australian government so that we achieve our lawful rights”.
